The cleaner’s product instruction contains a heaps of tips and forward movement on maintaining your pool cleaner. You will most probably trace an expert troubleshooting section that can give you an idea of what the problem is and how to solve it.

5 Dolphin Pool Cleaner Troubleshooting Guide

1. If cleaner not starting

If your pool cleaner is not starting then the first thing to check is the power connection. Dolphin pool cleaners need to be connected to a power unit which is then connected to an outlet. Make sure you have pressed the button power unit so that power can flow.

If the power unit is alluding that it’s on then check the connection between the power unit and the pool cleaner is absolutely fine. If the power unit is too far away and the line has become loose so definitely there is an electrical problem. If you consider it takes too much time then call customer care or a pro.

You can also try reconnecting to solve the problem. Most of the manufactures recommend you to turn off the pool cleaner for 30 seconds and then turn it on again.

2. If pool cleaner not moving

First you should check the cable that is not the way of the wheels or tracks. Knotting is the main problem in non-swivel cables. If the cord is ok then consider it could be a mechanical problem inside the cleaner. It could be an affair with motor, tracts and belts or one of the many parts involved in a pool cleaner’s movement.

In many occurrences, you have to replace the affected part.  If you can’t solve your problem yourself then contact the manufacturer.

3. If a Pool Cleaner Moves For a While Then Stops;

One of the most common and irritating problems is if the pool cleaner moves and then stops. The pool cleaner works fine but after a while it stops without warning.

Check that if it is not a mechanical problem with the motor, pump or wheels. The common issue is the cord that is not tangled around any part of the cleaner.  In this case, most of the time we recommend customers to buy a pool cleaner with a 360 degree swivel cord.

If the pool cleaner is not moving around the whole pool areas then it could be a problem in pool cleaners features. Because there are some pool cleaners in which cleaning the pools at each corner and stairs is missing. Check the pool cleaner whether it keeps getting stuck in the same place over and over. If this pool cleaner does it in this case to get a more capable pool cleaner is the only solution.

To solve this problem, give the cleaner a minute to see if it starts moving again. If all the solutions go wrong then switch the power to the cleaner, wait 30 seconds and switch it on again.

4. Pool Cleaner Leaves Some Areas Untouched

Sometimes after running your pool cleaners for 2 hours you will notice that some parts of pools are still dirty. You have to make sure that the cord has enough slack. The cord needs to be long enough that the cleaner can easily reach every section of the pool. Check the scrubbing brushes also whether the problem is with that. Most probably they are not moving because of having an obstruction. If in this way the problem is not solved then it should be replaced.

5. If the cleaner Does Not Climb Walls

If your pool cleaner fails to climb up the swimming pool walls then maybe there is a manual problem. You have to make sure the pump is working properly. There is one more reason for not working pool cleaner that is over slippery walls caused by too much algae growth. This problem is created because of an unbalanced and excessive amount of chemical levels or staying too long without cleaning the pool.

To solve this problem you can scrub the walls, add the right amount of chemicals and try this frequently.

FAQs about Dolphin Pool Cleaner Troubleshooting

Q: What is the reason why my pool cleaner doesn’t work?

When a suction pool  cleaner is sluggish or slow it’s usually a clogged pump basket or dirty filter that is to blame. Other problems comprise holes in the cleaner hose, sucking air into the hose. Or the filter pump could be drawing in air, reducing water flow volume.

Q: How do I get rid of algae in my pool without a vacuum?

Grit, algae and other small debris particles are easy to remove if your swimming pool has a filter. First, you should clean the filter thoroughly and make sure it is in good working order. If it is turned off, then brush the sides of your pool to remove any algae or debris that is settled there.

Q: Is it better to run a pool pump at night?

Yes, but running the pump at night should only be when you are doing a major chemical treatment such as algae clean up. Your pool is more vulnerable during the day, plants don’t grow at night the way they do during the day. That’s true of all plants including algae.

  1. Hi Ron, I have a Dolphin pool cleaner, must admit it is quite old but never had a problem with it before. I put my pool cleaner in today and the water does register 64°, which originally I thought was the problem. My dolphin starts to move about a foot and then stops, I shut it off wait 30 seconds and then try again this time it will go a little further but still stops. Not ready to give up on it and buy a new one, because it does seem to at least start and work somewhere. Is there a suggestion?
